Use this ILRW spot check to assess safety on underground construction jobsites, with a focus on excavation and trenching. Verify soil classification, appropriate protective systems such as trench boxes, shoring, benching, or sloping, and ensure materials and equipment are set back at least 2 feet from the edge. Confirm safe entry and egress with ladders or ramps within 25 feet for excavations 4 feet or deeper. Check controls for water accumulation, required PPE, parking and traffic control measures, and document observations and sign off on site.
