Daily Excavation Checklist

This daily excavation checklist helps crews inspect trenches and excavations before work begins. Verify soil classification, depth and width, protective systems (trench boxes, shoring or sloping), barricades and signage, spoil placement, and pre-job training. Confirm utilities are located and supported, overhead lines noted, and underground installations protected. Check wet conditions and dewatering controls, conduct post-rain inspections, and assess hazardous atmospheres with testing and ventilation as needed. Ensure safe entry and exit with secured ladders or ramps within 25 feet, and document hazards, corrective actions, and sign-off to meet regulatory requirements for excavation safety.
