This excavation and trench inspection checklist helps crews assess on-site conditions and controls before and during trenching work. Review weather, surface conditions, spoil placement, vibration sources, barricades, lighting, walkways and bridges. Verify protective systems such as sloping, benching, shoring and shielding are installed and functioning with no movement or deflection. Confirm signage, safe access and egress, stairs, ladders and ramps, dewatering and safe water discharge, and potential gas build up. Check permit compliance, operator competency, daily plant inspections, risk assessments, isolations and lockout tagout, spill readiness and PPE. Record locations, dates, media and inspection summaries to support safety and regulatory compliance for construction and solar farm projects.
