TITB Trenching and Excavation Safety Checklist

This practical checklist supports a competent person in planning and inspecting trenching and excavation work. It covers initial site assessment, utility locating and support, soil classification using visual and manual tests, required access and egress within 25 feet, spoil placement set back at least 2 feet, barricades and guardrails, and protection selection including sloping, benching, shoring, shielding, or engineered systems. It prompts daily inspections, stability checks, and documentation, plus atmospheric testing for confined spaces. Aligned with OSHA Subpart P requirements.
