Excavation Site Safety Inspection Checklist
by Javier Duran, from the Community
Use this excavation site safety inspection checklist to help supervisors and competent persons assess trenching and excavation activities on construction projects. It covers pre-start planning, locating utilities and identifying soil type, ensuring proper shoring, benching, or sloping, safe access and egress at 25-foot intervals, barricades and signage, spoil placement at least 2 feet from edges, water accumulation control, and daily oversight by a competent person. Record findings, assign corrective actions, and document photos, drawings, and comments to improve compliance and reduce risk.
