Bed Safety Inspection Checklist

This bed safety inspection checklist helps hospitals and care homes assess beds for patient safety and compliance. Verify assembly condition, clearances, and operation of all functions. Measure side rail and mattress gaps to recommended thresholds, for example less than 60 millimeters at the headboard and mattress, less than 120 millimeters beneath rails, and either less than 60 or greater than 318 millimeters at the footboard. Confirm mattress type and pump settings based on resident weight, and check the presence and condition of rail bumpers. Use this for routine audits to reduce entrapment risk and document corrective actions.
