Activity Boats Pre-Use Safety Checklist

Use this pre-use safety checklist to prepare, operate and close activity boats at a leisure lake. It guides staff through opening checks such as signing in, collecting keys and a radio, reviewing weather and wind limits, completing a lake walk, and setting up buoyancy aids, paddles, first aid kit and the staff rescue boat. Perform detailed inspections for swan boats, kayaks and canoes including cleanliness, damage, pedals and steering, bungs and bodywork. Verify the jetty and launch area are safe, water level is acceptable, and wildlife hazards are noted. Confirm adequate PPE and a stocked first aid kit. Finish with closing checks to clean, secure and store all craft and equipment, lock facilities, return keys and radio, and sign out.
