Monthly Fire Extinguisher and Emergency Lighting Inspection
by Kacey Buffington, from the Community
This monthly inspection checklist guides facility teams through visual checks of fire extinguishers, exit signs, smoke detectors and fire alarms, plus functional tests for emergency lighting. Steps include verifying extinguisher visibility, seals, pressure and service dates; dating and signing tags; testing smoke detectors; reviewing elevator phones and recall tests; and conducting monthly and annual emergency light tests, including a 90 minute battery discharge. Record findings, create actions or work orders for deficiencies, and escalate out of scope items to the property manager to maintain compliance and safety across sites.
