Annual Property Maintenance Checklist for Churches
by Peter Rose, from the Community
This annual property maintenance checklist helps churches and congregations inspect buildings and grounds to safeguard health, safety, and compliance with the Work Health and Safety Act 2011. It guides reviews of policies and records (WHS, Safe Ministry with Children, asbestos, chemical management), building exteriors and interiors (access, lighting, trip hazards, gutters, handrails), electrical safety (RCDs, testing and tagging, power boards), ventilation and amenities, and first aid and emergency procedures (kits, evacuation plans, signage, drills). It also covers security controls, key and access management, and protection of contents. Use findings to create action plans and submit results to the Church Council and Presbytery as required.
