Housekeeping Checklist for the Workplace
by Madeleine Modina, from the Community
This workplace housekeeping checklist helps teams conduct regular inspections that reduce hazards and improve safety and efficiency. It covers floor conditions, signage, lighting, and clear walkways; aisle and stairway access; spill control and correct use/disposal of absorbents; waste segregation, container placement, and emptying frequency; equipment and machinery upkeep, including guards, leak checks, and cleanup after tasks; storage practices that prevent obstructions and ensure secure stacking; and fire prevention requirements such as proper handling of combustibles, approved containers, clear sprinkler heads, and accessible extinguishers. Close out with recommendations, an overall rating, and inspector sign-off.
