Mishap Prevention Signs and Tags Checklist
by 167th Wing Safety Office, from the Community
This Air Force Instruction 91-203 based checklist helps teams audit mishap prevention signs and tags across facilities. Verify adequate supplies of safety signs, confirm exit signage clearly marks egress routes, and ensure tags are used appropriately as temporary warnings for hazardous conditions or defective equipment. Check correct application of AF Forms 979 Danger Tag, 980 Caution Tag, 981 Out of Order Tag, and 982 Do Not Start Tag. Coordinate tag placement and Risk Assessment Codes with the Ground Safety office, Fire Emergency Services, or Bioenvironmental Engineering as required, and confirm RAC verification timelines are met. Use this template to standardize hazard communication and strengthen workplace safety compliance.
