Variable Frequency Drive Inspection Checklist
by Cesar Sepulveda, from the Community
This variable frequency drive inspection checklist guides technicians through a thorough review of centrifuge and pump control panels used on drilling rigs. Record the asset number and capture photos while inspecting the frame and cabinet for cracks, dents, rust, open holes, and the presence of an HMI window kit. Verify receptacles, power cables, cable glands, and door latches. Electrically, apply LOTO as required, confirm proper grounding, check door latches, piano hinges, and door seals, and inspect receptacles internally for heat damage and insert condition. Remove and inspect 200A, 100A, 60A, and 30A plugs and sleeves, disassemble centrifuge and pump plugs to verify wire connections, and look for burnt marks or loose terminals inside the panel. Inspect communication cables, then close the panel and remove LOTO. Conduct function tests for back drive, main drive, and pump drive, verify communication, and test the E‑stop.
