This checklist helps assess whether a home is suitable to host a home based childcare service. It guides a structured review of indoor and outdoor areas, with a focus on safe supervision, child friendly spaces for quiet time and active play, learning areas, lighting and ventilation, temperature control, and durable floor surfaces. It covers storage for equipment and records, first aid, toilets and handwashing, nappy changing, showers or tubs, sleep spaces with appropriate bedding, and facilities for food preparation, storage, and cleaning. Outdoor sections review access, drainage, surfacing, and secure fencing and gates, plus identification and remediation of hazards such as pools, steep drops, or unsafe decks. It also notes short term equipment needs like car seats, cots, stretchers, high chairs, prams, first aid kits, and fire extinguishers.
