Use this Harness Pre-Start Checklist to verify personal fall arrest equipment is safe before use. Inspect webbing and lanyards for cuts, abrasion, heat or chemical damage; snap hooks for distortion, latch function and corrosion; D-rings for cracks, wear and excessive movement; buckles and adjusters for damage; and stitching for broken or degraded threads. Fall Protection Harness and Extender Inspection
Use this checklist to inspect personal fall protection equipment before use. Verify full body harness hardware including buckles, adjusters and D-rings; assess webbing and stitching for cuts, abrasions, mold, discoloration, or signs of heat, chemical or UV damage. Check stitched impact indicators and remove any impacted harness from service. Confirm all labels are present and legible. For D-ring extenders and connectors, ensure snap hooks and carabiners gate and lock properly, adjusters function smoothly, and record model, serial and length details. If applicable, inspect synthetic rope for wear, tight splices and contamination. Capture site, inspector and equipment owner details, then sign and date completion to document compliance and keep workers safe at height.

Capture equipment details and serial or barcode, then verify the presence and legibility of ID tags, check webbing for cuts, abrasion, burns, chemical damage, and loose or broken stitching, inspect D-rings for wear, cracks, sharp edges, and free pivoting, confirm buckles, grommets, and rivets are secure and undamaged, and review lanyards and wire rope for fraying or unusual wear.
