Crane Safety: Pre, During and Post Operation
by Maria Plops, from the Community
This crane safety checklist guides crews through safer lifting operations across the full job lifecycle. Pre-operation steps cover registration and permits, operator and dogman competency, service clearances from overhead or underground utilities, visual plant checks, lift plan review, task analysis sign-off, load capacity and landing surface suitability, exclusion zones, supervision, and toolbox talks. During the lift, it reinforces clear communications and hand signals, maintaining exclusion zones, and following the lift plan under competent supervision. Post-operation actions include proper shutdown, documenting defects, and raising corrective actions for the next lift.
