Truck and Plant Ergonomic Assessment Checklist
by Dane Casserly, from the Community
This ergonomic assessment template helps evaluate operator comfort, posture, and safety for trucks and heavy plant such as loaders, excavators, graders, rollers, and street sweepers. It covers seat features and adjustments (height, tilt, lumbar, suspension), body angle targets, control reach, pedal access, vibration, cab space and temperature, mirrors and cameras, visibility, and windscreen condition. The checklist also reviews access and egress steps and handrails, isolation switch placement, radio and CB mic positioning, and encourages stretching and movement strategies. Use it to identify risks, make adjustments, and document pre- and post-assessment photos and actions to improve operator wellbeing and reduce musculoskeletal strain.
