Forestry and Landscape Pre-Start Assessment
by Michael Thomas, from the Community
This pre-start assessment helps forestry and landscape teams verify readiness before work. Use it to confirm van preparedness, first aid and spill kits, machine servicing, and safe fuel containers. Conduct a toolbox talk and review site conditions such as access, signage, uneven ground, roads, overhead power lines, weather, wildlife, and welfare. Select planned tasks including cutting and treating, coppicing, brushcutting, pruning, hedge cutting, tree felling, stump treatment, fertiliser application, and litter picking. Check required PPE and equipment, note main hazards like vibration, noise, and manual handling, plan for emergencies with What3Words, capture signatures, and record incidents.
