Trailer Safety and Maintenance Inspection Checklist
by Kristin Stangebye, from the Community
This trailer inspection checklist helps drivers and fleet teams assess the condition of a trailer before use. Verify pipes and couplings, ladder and railings, tank integrity, support legs, hydraulic hoses, and braking system including calipers, chambers, pads, and drums or discs. Confirm no leaks, ABS function, working lights, tire tread, wheel bolts, and frame condition. Capture photos when issues are found, log defects, assign corrective actions with due dates and owners, inform the office of deviations, and record driver sign off and repair arrangements.
