Saber Commercial Motor Vehicle Inspection Checklist
by James Langston, from the Community
This commercial motor vehicle inspection checklist helps drivers and fleet managers conduct thorough DOT- and FMCSA-aligned inspections. Review driver credentials and medical card validity; examine engine compartment belts, hoses, and fluid levels; assess cab safety equipment including fire extinguisher, triangles, and gauges; perform brake checks; and complete an exterior walkaround for lights, tires, rims, placards, mirrors, and body condition. Cover trailer safety with reflective tape, tie-downs, chains and binders, and cargo securement per 49 CFR 393.100. Confirm USDOT and IFTA markings, hitch integrity, electrical connections, and 5th wheel locking. Use signatures and comments to certify audit results and maintain DOT compliance.
