Victoria and Tasmania Supermarket Shrinkage Review
by Phil Batten, from the Community
This checklist helps supermarket leaders assess shrinkage and risk across key store areas. Review front end security, self checkouts, cashier procedures and bag checks. Evaluate cash control, refunds and saved transactions. Inspect service desk and cigarette kiosk practices, including storage and bulk deliveries. Validate product integrity for perishables and long life items, stock rotation, markdowns and waste. Check electronic article surveillance routines and responses. Examine receiving processes, back dock security, invoice handling and claim procedures. Verify inventory controls including AutoStockR tasks, stock on hand adjustments and product investigations. Assess high theft risk categories such as health and beauty, batteries, razors and liquor. Confirm CCTV coverage, alarm settings, system access and defensive merchandising controls. Use findings to reduce stock loss, strengthen compliance and improve store profitability.
