Pre-Hurricane Facility Readiness Checklist
by Kacey Buffington, from the Community
This pre-hurricane checklist helps facility and property teams prepare sites before storm season. It guides inspections of signage, parking lot drainage, landscaping and trees, condenser straps, and rooftop conditions, including debris removal, drainage, and any loose roofing. It prompts checks of antennas and dishes, and verification that interior and exterior emergency lighting operates correctly. Teams are asked to ensure clear access to electrical power panels and fire panels, confirm hurricane shutters and flood bags are available and usable, and note their locations. The checklist also covers generator switch hookups, locks and keys, and confirms that building access keys are present in the key box. Items requiring action are escalated to the Property Manager, with space provided for additional notes and work order tracking. Use this template as a practical guide to coordinate readiness tasks and reduce risk ahead of severe weather.
