Playground Operational Inspection Checklist

by Tim Ellwood, from the Community

Downloads: 10+

Use this playground operational inspection checklist to assess and document the condition and safety of public play spaces. Verify protective surfacing, boundaries and access, drainage, and general equipment condition. Check for hazards such as sharp edges, entanglement risks, crush or shear points, trip hazards, and worn or missing components. Confirm security hardware and anchoring, durability issues like rust, rot, cracks, or splinters, and painted surface defects. Ensure signage and emergency contacts are present, waste bins are serviced, and the area is free from debris, vandalism, or graffiti. Capture photos, note defects, assign actions, and maintain accurate records to support regular maintenance and compliance with applicable standards such as EN1177.
