Planned Inspection for Drill and Blast Work Areas
by John Mischewski, from the Community
This planned inspection checklist supports safe, compliant drilling and blasting operations. It guides supervisors, safety representatives, and crews through checks for drill benches and wall conditions, correct drill pattern delineation, windrows and separation from other activities, dust control, hole plugging and dipping, and housekeeping. It includes explosives transport and storage on the bench, separation of detonators, secure containers, and quality control. Loading sections cover adherence to the load plan and recording explosives per hole. Firing controls include notice boards, pre-blast reviews, blast control plans, guarded accesses, audible signals, misfire reporting, and post-blast reviews. Magazine inspections are referenced via DM-OC-(OC)-F312. Non-conformances are logged and closed in InControl, with sign-off for accountability.
