This combustible dust audit checklist is designed for sawmills to support daily, zone-by-zone inspections that reduce explosion and fire risk. Inspect primary and secondary dust levels against program thresholds (including the 1/8 inch over 5% area limit), verify source control, housekeeping effectiveness, ventilation, and removal from ignition sources such as heaters, electrical equipment, hot work, or friction. Review divisional cleanup schedules and adequacy, note upset conditions, and document corrective actions. Evaluate worker practices, test employee knowledge of combustible dust hazards, and confirm requirements for compressed air use (pre-work card, no dust plume, last resort). Use this checklist to standardize hazard recognition, control, and reporting across planer, barker room, canter, gangs, edger, stacker, compressor room, chipper, and related areas.
