Safe management of care equipment audit tool for care homes
by Jamal Ogungbola, from the Community
This audit tool helps care homes manage and decontaminate care equipment in line with the Health and Social Care Act Code of Practice. It guides staff on correct cleaning methods, use of detergent and chlorine-based disinfectants, PPE such as gloves, aprons and eye protection, and safe decontamination areas. It promotes hand hygiene, clean-to-dirty workflows, and documented evidence of cleaning. Checks include equipment condition, cleanliness of sample items, and understanding of single use and single patient use items to prevent cross infection.
