CMS Physical Environment Requirements Checklist
by Chad Niemeyer, from the Community
This checklist helps hospitals and clinics assess compliance with CMS Conditions of Participation §482.41 for the Physical Environment. Use it to review A-Tag and B-Tag requirements across buildings, emergency power and lighting, emergency gas and water, Life Safety Code, fire control plans, storage and disposal of trash, ventilation, temperature and humidity controls, and maintenance programs. It supports QAPI integration, preventive and predictive maintenance practices, Alternate Equipment Management decisions, and documentation of inspections. Adapt it for inpatient and outpatient settings to ensure safe, compliant facilities.
