This DN-07b checklist supports safe drilling and tapping of metallic gas mains. It guides operatives and assessors through key steps: pre-use Voltstick checks on exposed metalwork; selecting the correct saddle and setting up the drilling machine per manufacturer limits; maintaining clearance from joints and corrosion; pressure testing to 1.5x working pressure or 350 mbar; operating and sealing the gate valve; controlled drilling and manual tapping while monitoring mains pressure; safe venting; leak checks using SGN‑approved leak detection fluid; removal of swarf; sealing and wrapping exposed metallic joints with approved mastic (denso) tape; and final sign-off to pass or refer for additional training.
