API 653 Internal and External Tank Inspection Checklist
by Jason Jimenez, from the Community
Use this API 653 internal and external tank inspection checklist to assess aboveground storage tanks. Capture site details, design data, dimensions, coatings, and material specs. Inspect foundations, containment, drainage, anchorage, and fire suppression. Evaluate tank bottom and welds with visual checks, MFL, UT, MT/PT, and document pits and repairs. Review shell plates, weld seams, nozzles, appurtenances, vents, wind girders, and access structures for corrosion, deformation, leaks, and coating failures. Assess fixed and floating roofs, seals, drains, pontoons, grounding, and gauging systems. Attach photos, summarize findings, and record repair recommendations to maintain compliance with API 653.
