RSC High-Risk Areas Workplace Inspection - Management
by Torsten Schwich, from the Community
This management-level workplace inspection checklist is designed for high-risk areas across university and research settings. It guides managers to confirm outstanding corrective actions, consult workers, and verify emergency readiness, including evacuation diagrams, fire extinguishers, emergency showers and eye washes, lighting, first aid kits, and AEDs. It covers noise and ergonomics; plant and equipment safeguards such as emergency stops, interlocks, pressure equipment registration, and ladder controls; and laboratory controls, including fume cupboards, biological cabinets, and hoods. Specialized sections address animal facilities, compressed and LPG gases, cryogenics with oxygen monitoring and quantity limits, and ionising radiation management, including spill kits, secure storage, impervious work surfaces, secondary containment, and contamination checks. Use it to document observations and drive corrective actions.
