Construction Workplace Inspection Checklist
by Paul Mittiga, from the Community
This construction workplace inspection checklist helps supervisors and site managers assess safety and compliance on major works projects. Verify SWMS for high-risk tasks, maintain a project hazard log, display emergency procedures and site rules, and ensure all workers are inducted. Review pedestrian and traffic management, PPE use, fire extinguishers, first aid coverage, housekeeping, and secure storage of dangerous goods. Check electrical testing, permits, and plant risk assessments, with exclusion zones and manual handling aids in place. Confirm hot work permits, working at heights controls and competencies, excavation plans and services locating, signage and guarding, benching or shoring, scaffold certifications, demolition and formwork approvals, hazardous materials registers, and licensed asbestos or lead removal. Record observations and actions.
