Hand and Power Tools Safety Inspection Checklist
by Kent Walton, from the Community
This hand and power tools safety inspection checklist helps teams verify safe tool condition and use across the worksite. It covers hand tool hazards and maintenance, proper handles, sharp cutting edges, secure storage, and employee awareness. For power tools it checks operator training, required PPE, manufacturer guards and attachments, grounding or double insulation, guarding of moving parts, and use of hoisting equipment for heavy loads. Sections address grinder safety including rest and tongue clearances, side guards, RPM compatibility, individual switches, dust control, coolant splash protection, and housekeeping. It also includes requirements for portable fans, temporary electrical protection with GFCI, inspection of pneumatic and hydraulic hoses, and safe handling of powder actuated tools with signage, storage, and daily inspections.
