Wildlife Habitat Council Pollinator Monitoring Protocol
by Lindsay Van Woert, from the Community
Use this Wildlife Habitat Council protocol to monitor pollinator habitat on a regular schedule. Observe the site for at least 10 minutes and record weather conditions, pollinator species, life stage, counts, and the host plant being visited. The checklist includes common native plant options such as Anise Hyssop, Butterfly Weed, Pale Purple Coneflower, Prairie Blazing Star, and more, plus fields for notes and photos. Best results occur on sunny, relatively windless days from early spring through the first frost. Standardize monitoring to track biodiversity trends and habitat health across your sites.
