This monthly cone drill procedure for ITS Technologies and Logistics helps intermodal terminal operators prevent equipment contact incidents. In a controlled setting, place a highly visible cone in the path of a crane or behind a sideloader at least two car lengths away. Evaluate whether the operator identifies the cone and stops safely, record results, provide feedback, and coach as needed.
