Outdoor Playground Safety Checklist for Schools
by Sahar Mardoum, from the Community
Use this outdoor playground safety checklist to assess school and nursery play areas before use. Check fencing, gates, surfacing, shade, and equipment spacing to ensure clear supervision. Verify equipment stability and condition, guardrails on elevated platforms, and age appropriate heights. Identify trip hazards, toxins, animals or insects, and water hazards. Confirm first aid kits and emergency contacts are available, staff training and evacuation plans are in place, and regular cleaning, repairs, and incident reporting occur. Include weather monitoring, accessibility for children with special needs, and site security.
