DB Cargo Yard Health and Safety Visit Checklist
by martin smallman, from the Community
This rail yard health and safety visit checklist is designed for DB Cargo sites to help supervisors evaluate compliance and reduce risk during yard operations and train movements. It covers review of prior inspections, safe system of work and method of work adherence, radio communication protocol, positions of safety, and correct setting of points. Inspect walking routes, stairs, railings, gates and fencing, vegetation control, signage visibility, PPE usage, spill response, reverse parking, use of derailers, and monitoring such as CCTV. Assess lighting by day and night, mess room and welfare facilities, fire prevention and evacuation, rubbish removal, and first aid readiness including kit checks and emergency numbers. Verify controls for plant and road vehicles to prevent conflicts with train movements, ladder security, and seasonal gritting. Record issues and actions for follow up.
