This SLAM checklist supports Capcoal surface coal mining teams to Stop, Look, Assess and Manage risk before work. Identify energy sources and hazards including gravitational, thermal, electrical, noise, falls, line of fire, stored energy, pressure and chemical exposure. Apply Golden Rules and critical controls, verify isolation, plan for emergencies and complete required inspections. Confirm permits and additional PPE, reference SOP and SWI controls, score initial and residual risk using the 1L to 25H matrix and decide if it is safe to start or continue the task.
