Coal Stockpile Hot Coal Management FRCV Checklist
by Samantha Fellows, from the Community
This Fatal Risk Control Verification checklist supports hot coal management for in-pit and coal stockpiles to prevent spontaneous combustion and related fires or explosions. It aligns with legislative requirements, Australian Standards, and BMA/GRM procedures. Key controls include low-profile, elongated stockpile design, temperature monitoring by JSA-defined frequency, downwind load-out with oldest coal first, and timely removal of ROM or crushed coal. It also verifies hot coal handling: immediate processing where possible, or separation and spreading to dissipate heat, with sampling of CMWs for competency.
