Fatal Risk Critical Control Verification - Lifting
by Gerald Visagie, from the Community
Ensure critical controls are in place for crane and lifting work in mining. This checklist guides verification of worker competency, lift plans and risk assessments, workplace inspections, rigging selection and balance, equipment capacity and safety devices, current tagging of chains, slings and shackles, exclusion zone setup and demarcation, powerline clearance and permits, use of tag lines, continuous operator attendance, communication to affected personnel, and sign-off. If any fatal risk control is not effective, stop the task and reassess.
