Diggers and Bucket Trucks Over 10,000 lbs GVWR
by Chris Burnis, from the Community
This onsite observation checklist is designed for digger derricks, aerial devices, and other commercial utility vehicles over 10,000 lbs GVWR used in electric distribution and transmission. It verifies required documents including insurance, registration, operator manual, accident reporting guidelines, daily post trip inspections, and annual DOT meetings. The checklist covers maintenance and safety items such as work zone equipment, emergency triangles, lights, winches and controls, grounding and barricading, tool storage, wheel chocks, outrigger pads, and equipment placards. It prompts daily operational inspections and dielectric tests that meet OSHA, ASTM, and ANSI standards, with RESAP recommending semiannual testing. Sections address bucket rescue devices, hydraulic lines, live line tools, rubber goods, fall protection, FR or arc rated clothing, slings, and strap hoists, with space for comments and signatures.
