Working Around Overhead Services Inspection
by Henno Ferreira, from the Community
This workplace inspection checklist helps crews control risks when working around overhead services such as powerlines and utilities. It prompts teams to confirm a JobSTART has identified overhead hazards and defined controls; install clear warning signage; assign a trained spotter; maintain positive radio communication between spotter and plant operators; verify that workers hold the required licenses and competencies; and visibly mark cables with flags, cones, and warning sleeves. It also checks for clear access and egress points and confirms an emergency response plan has been discussed and understood. Use this template to standardize pre-start checks and improve safety on construction and civil works sites.
