Risk Category Standard: Structural Integrity
by Murray Taylor, from the Community
This Structural Integrity Risk Category Standard helps teams manage structural safety from design through operations. It defines roles and competencies for risk, control, and task executors; outlines appointment requirements; and details risk management steps such as conducting IBRA/PTRA assessments, issuing permits to work, and adhering to in-country legislation and standards. Guidance covers design approvals by registered professionals, appropriate materials selection, recognized NDT integrity testing, safe load limits and signage, and Management of Change for modifications. It includes inspection regimes by competent persons, checks after adverse weather, and specific requirements for special scaffolds and man‑made dams (e.g., freeboard, seepage control, stability analysis, and penstock blockage checks).
