This NCC Monitoring of Contractors checklist is a site audit tool for assessing contractor compliance on construction projects. Use this contractor performance monitoring checklist to assess safety and compliance on construction sites. Evaluate housekeeping, traffic control, inductions, site specific safety plans, hazard registers, WorkSafe notifications, safety meetings, and worker participation. Verify evacuation plans, regular inspections, visitor management, and adequate signage. Check hazard identification and controls, incident reporting procedures, and availability of facilities, first aid, and fire protection. Review housekeeping standards, PPE use, health hazards, confined space controls, and working at heights. Inspect ladders, scaffolds, machinery guarding, power actuated tools, electrical tagging, and lead management. Consider environmental controls for silt, dust, waste, and noise, and confirm emergency readiness and drills.

Site Specific Safety Plan Contractor Review
Use this Site Specific Safety Plan (SSSP) Contractor Review checklist to assess the adequacy of contractor safety documentation before work begins. Confirm project scope and contacts, identify high-risk and notifiable works, and verify risk registers, controls, and required permits. Check emergency response planning, hazardous substances registers and SDS, and minimum PPE. Review induction, training and competency records, supervision of untrained workers, and environmental controls for noise, dust, fumes, and smoke. Ensure subcontractor SSSPs are included, and that consultation practices (prestarts, toolbox talks, safety meetings) are defined with evidence. Validate monitoring and review processes such as site inspections and plant maintenance, along with incident reporting, investigations, serious harm notifications, and corrective actions.
