IDI Exterior Framing Quality Control Checklist
by Peter Graham, from the Community
This exterior framing QAQC checklist supports site inspectors and crews in verifying that framing work meets plans, specifications, and manufacturer requirements. It covers anchorage of bottom and deflection tracks, plumb alignment, correct stud gauge and installation, allowable stud-to-track gaps, and proper clip and accessory placement. Inspectors confirm wall stud plumbness, control and expansion joint layout and framing, temporary and permanent bracing, and backing for reveals, terminations, and fixtures. The checklist includes verification of framed openings for doors, windows, and grilles; insulation at double studs and headers; horizontal bridging; painted stud welds and completed welding; correct screw patterns; and absence of knockouts near tracks. It concludes with site cleanup and a walkthrough with the general contractor superintendent.
