Global Light HSE Health, Safety and Environment
by Aaron Kirby, from the Community
This Global Light HSE checklist supports comprehensive health, safety and environmental audits for street and civil works. It covers site safety and PPE, first aid, welfare and emergency planning, tool and equipment checks including vibrating tools, cable locators and gas detection, and vehicle condition and parking. Documentation requirements include drawings, job and gang packs, site specific risk assessments and RAMS. Works practices address safe digging to HSG47, identifying and marking buried services, excavation stability, housekeeping and damage reporting. NRSWA compliance is reviewed for permits, certified personnel, signing and guarding per ACOP, barriered work areas, information boards and clean, serviceable traffic control. Plant and vehicle worthiness checks include operator competence, maintenance records, arrival checks, fit for purpose controls, unauthorised use prevention and spill kits. Environmental controls cover protection of watercourses, mud control, noise and dust, safe COSHH storage, spill protection and correct waste handling.
