This excavation checklist helps crews plan and verify safe trenching and excavation work. Record site details, soil classification, excavation dimensions, and the protective system in use. Perform daily inspections covering utilities locating and marking, safe access and egress, spoil pile setbacks, barriers, walkways with guardrails, PPE, traffic visibility, and suspended load controls. Assess wet conditions, water removal, and runoff control. Test for hazardous atmospheres, provide ventilation and rescue equipment as needed, and ensure competent-person oversight. Verify support and shield systems are selected, installed, inspected, and removed per engineering and OSHA requirements.
