Residential Electrical Inspection Checklist 2024
by autumn jones, from the Community
Use this residential electrical inspection checklist to evaluate exterior and interior systems in homes. Verify service entrance clearance and weatherhead condition, meter base mounting and grounding, service panel labeling, cover, and signs of overheating, plus bonding and grounding. Check grounding electrodes and conductors, including metal water and gas pipe bonding. Inside, inspect wiring support and protection; test outlets and switches; confirm correct lighting fixtures and bulb ratings; test GFCIs in kitchens, bathrooms, and outdoors; verify appliance grounding and cords; and check smoke alarm placement and operation. Capture photos, document findings and permits, and note recommendations to improve safety and code compliance. Record inspector signature and final compliance status.
