Assessment for SEPP 2008 NSW Exempt Development
by Brad McCleery, from the Community
This assessment checklist helps determine if proposed residential works in NSW qualify as exempt development under the State Environmental Planning Policy (Exempt and Complying Development Codes) 2008. It guides users through key requirements for carports, roofs, and decks, including setbacks from boundaries and road frontages, maximum heights, open-side and perimeter ratios, floor height limits, non-combustible materials on bushfire-prone land, and heritage conservation constraints. It also covers zoning checks via the Planning Portal, 10.7 planning certificates, and when additional approvals, BAL assessments, or design changes may be needed.
