ShipIt Week 2018

7th-11th MAY

ShipIt week is about coming together as a global team to collaborate, innovate and push the boundaries. ShipIt is a unique part of SafetyCulture’s DNA and this event will be the 6th ShipIt to take place in Townsville, the birthplace of SafetyCulture!

What is incredible is that since the last ShipIt we have grown from 120 attendees to over 180. As we scale quickly it is more critical than ever to focus on building relationships across teams, align our mission, and realise our capabilities.

We hope you come away from this week having a greater focus on the HOW and WHY of our ambitious goals and mission, learn new things, and collaborate in new ways with each and every one of our incredibly talented team. We are on a phenomenal journey together - excited to see what we are capable of!

ShipIt Day

ShipIt Day is your opportunity to work on that project you’ve always wanted to start that wasn’t on the roadmap. Be creative, start a new product, add a new feature, fix some bugs, make something easier for our customers, or deliver an improvement to life at SafetyCulture! Have fun, and work with the team you’ve always wanted to collaborate with. You’ll have 24 hours to work together to deliver something impactful and present it to everyone else. This is your chance to push the boundaries, put innovation at the forefront and embrace the opportunity to work with people you normally wouldn’t!

What you need to know:

  • 24 hours time frame. The project is intended to be done in 24 hours, not started before (though you might need to plan if you need resources for it)
  • All ideas welcome. Anything is a valid project. Be creative
  • Not limited to tech. Everyone can be involed. It does not need to be a tech project - we love all kinds of projects and encourage people and customer related projects (our SafetyCulture Values were a ShipIt project!)
  • Not for your real work back-log. Don’t defer your real work to a ShipIt project; ShipIt isn’t a time to do the thing you’ve been meaning to get around to
  • Ready to ship. If it’s a new idea, get it into a state that makes a case to take it forward; The aim is to be able to 'ship' your idea by the end of the 24 hours
  • Form teams now. Form your teams in the next two weeks. You can change who & what, but we need to get a good indication on the number of presentations there will be
  • Team with different people. It’s best to work with people you wouldn’t usually- embrace diversity of thought!
  • 3 min pitch. The demo is a strict 3 minutes. Focus on showing an outcome (very similar to the Q2 pitches approach)
  • Build it well. Videos are great, but please keep them to a max of 1.5 mins- we love presentations where we can hear & interact with live projects & teams.
  • Use your time wisely. Whether you’re done by dinner, or a night owl that keeps going into the early hours, make sure you’re ready to demo before you wrap up so that you’re ready to go the next day!
  • Have Fun. We want our ideas to turn into reality- sometimes these projects end up turning into viable products so have some fun and think outside the box!

Check out previous projects from the last 4 ShipIts! The bar is set high and you will notice some projects that have been shipped or are in our product roadmap!
